Fast, effective, and sustainable, read how our re-decoration and mould eradication services have resulted in happier tenants
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), a leading housing association committed to providing quality social housing, tasked Diamond Decorators with an urgent interior refurbishment project in some of their residential schemes.
Located within the Rochdale area, certain homes within their social housing schemes had become compromised by various structural and surface issues, notably the presence of mould and widespread cosmetic wear and tear.
These problems had escalated to the point where some tenants needed to be temporarily re-located, so that the necessary repairs, mould eradication, and redecoration could be carried out swiftly and safely.
RBH’s primary objective was to create a healthier, more comfortable living environment for their tenants while meeting strict deadlines to minimise disruption. The affected properties, which had suffered from persistent damp and mould growth, cold spots on walls, and outdated decorative finishes, required a comprehensive range of restoration and decorating services.
In addition, certain communal areas within their schemes needed upgrading to ensure that tenants benefited from a refreshed, more welcoming atmosphere.
By engaging Diamond Decorators – known for our extensive experience in social housing improvements – RBH sought a partner capable of delivering quality workmanship within tight timeframes.
The assignment involved not only tackling the mould and related surface treatments but also ensuring that the final decorative finish would enhance the scheme’s long-term value and the tenants’ overall quality of life.
Drawing on decades of experience in improving social housing environments, Diamond Decorators worked in close partnership with the Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) Repairs Team from the outset.
By maintaining clear lines of communication, holding regular progress meetings, and coordinating schedules, we ensured that each phase of the refurbishment was carefully managed to deliver a swift, high-quality turnaround.
Throughout the process, our team remained flexible and responsive to changing requirements, adapting work sequences to fit RBH’s priorities and the tenants’ timelines.
Addressing the mould issue was the first priority. Our team began by thoroughly washing down and treating all affected areas using industry-approved, specialist mould removal products.
Then after we identified cold spots on walls, which are often a hidden cause of recurring damp, we applied thermal paint to help regulate surface temperatures and reduce the likelihood of mould re-growth.
In areas prone to repeated damp, walls and ceilings were coated with anti-mould paint to create a long-term protective barrier.
Where old silicone seals had been compromised by mould, we raked out and replaced these with fresh, anti-mould silicone sealant, ensuring that bath edges, sinks, and other vulnerable joints were now properly protected.
Once the mould remediation was completed, Diamond Decorators shifted focus to revitalising the property’s interiors. This involved stripping away dated wallpaper and removing polystyrene ceiling tiles.
After the surfaces had then been plastered, new wallpaper was applied where suitable, and the entire interior was repainted, covering all walls, ceilings, and woodwork. We ensured the selection of paints and finishes balanced aesthetic appeal, durability, and ongoing ease of maintenance for both residents and housing association staff.
In addition to the main decorating tasks, Diamond Decorators undertook detailed sealing works to safeguard against water ingress and improve the longevity of fixtures.
We applied appropriate, long-lasting sealant to baths, sinks, kitchen units, and worktops. This not only enhanced the visual appeal of these areas but also helped prevent moisture-related problems from reoccurring, contributing to a healthier living environment.
Outside the main focus of damp and mould remediation works, we also applied our painting and decorating expertise to a fire-damaged property within the RBH portfolio.
By carefully removing soot and char marks, applying specialist primers, and repainting affected surfaces, we restored a safe and visually refreshed space for the tenants, further demonstrating our flexibility and comprehensive skill set.
Our careful, step-by-step approach – spanning from initial mould treatment through to final decorative finishes – allowed Diamond Decorators to deliver a smooth, integrated solution. By coordinating directly with RBH’s team, we ensured that all elements of the project were completed efficiently, on schedule, and to a high standard.
By delivering a swift, thorough, and long-lasting solution, Diamond Decorators helped Rochdale Boroughwide Housing maintain their commitment to providing quality living conditions for their residents.
This project demonstrated how a proactive and collaborative approach can improve tenant satisfaction, uphold safety and comfort standards, and ultimately add long-term value to social housing schemes, benefiting both the housing association and the wider community they serve.
